So everyone is aware that I recently purchased a condo - aside from a paint job, some new carpet and blinds, the place needed no work.
However, the bathtub does NOT run hot water. Cold water comes out fierce, but if you move it to hot, cold water trickles out like Zot pissing in the morning..
My dad thinks the cartridge for the faucet needs to be replaced because it has been clogged with stuff behind it. I read elsewhere that you can just remove the handle and turn the water on to let water run out that valve and clear the way - anyone have experience with this?
It is a Gerber faucet by the way..

The inspector didnt let you in on that major issue? Could just need to clean out the pipe of Mineral deposits.

Actually, the inspector said the same thing - that it was probably a blocked cartridge.
The way he said it was, that it happens when people have their water shut off for some time (my unit was winterized) and then when they de-winterize, they turned the faucet on right away causing all the shit that settled to rush up towards the cartridge and get jammed behind it.. Just curious if the cartridge needs replacing, or if i can fix by removing the parts and letting the water flow out like I saw on other forums..

Sounds like you should go with the free option first. Have you priced a cartrage, and are you going to do the work yourself?

No, yes.
Replacing the cartridge is easy enough. Not sure what the pricing is on it but Ill probably try the free option first. I hope it works. Ever run into this problem?

I have not. I have worked on the plumbing in every home I have lived. It and electrical always seem to be the most common sencical when it comes to repair. Congrats on your new full time job.

As long as there are water controls on the inside of the faucet, it shouldn't be too hard. I replaced a cartridge in one of our rental houses not too long ago because it was leaking, and it didn't have the shut-offs right before the cartridge/mixer, so I had to run down to the basement to shut it off.
Once you have the cartridge out, I'd go to the hardware/plumbing store and atleast see what a new cart runs. I'd atleast replace the rubber gaskets so you don't have any leaks down the road. Better safe than sorry, and you'll have the cart out anyways.
You may want to consider dumping some lime remover into your hot water heater to clean the system. Chances are if one pipe has crud in it, the rest do too.

Does that have a separate heater in each unit, or is it a boiler elsewhere for the building?

Carts are easy to replace. Usually it goes like this:
shut off main water valve
open faucet
remove cart
place seals
replace cart
turn on water valve
I'd go with some lime remover for good measure.
It's a "change your oil" type of thing. So fucking easy to do, so fucking easy to charge someone else to do it.

I wouldn't trust an adult male who says 'lol' to do plumbing.
