The story will revolve around a "Book of Revelations" written by the boy Kenji and his friends, who dreamed of a hero who would stand up to an evil organization bent on destroying the world, during the era of rapid economic development in Japan, 30 years later, a series of catastrophes occur exactly as they were described in the book, setting the world off on the path to extinction.

The series aims to hit the airwaves in early 2008 with a plot that revolves around a group of friends trying to stop the arrival of Armageddon. The real life Aum death cult is apparently a major influence on this and the work also fuses 1950’s sci-fi references and a nostalgia-heavy soundtrack.

As mentioned before, this movie will be a trilogy, with the first chapter being released on the 30th of August. The budget for the entire trilogy is roughly $60 million, and will be shot in 7 different countries. Also, the English rock band T.Rex has agreed to let its song “20th Century Boy” be used and the trilogy’s theme song.

Oh boy ... I still love the guy’s work but I really hope Yukihiko Tsutsumi has got a little something up his sleeve here because the proper theatrical trailer for his massive adaptation of popular manga 20th Century Boys has just arrived and for the amount of money he’s spending I expect something that looks a whole lot better than this. Wherever all that money went it certainly didn’t go on hiring a high end cinematographer and I just can’t shake the feeling that there are shots in this trailer that just plain don’t look done. Has he bitten off more than he can chew here? I hope not but time will tell. Based on a manga by Urasawa Naoki the film has a sprawling cast that follows a group of friends over the span of decades as they try to stop the arrival of Armageddon. The real life Aum death cult - the people behind the sarin gas attacks on the Tokyo subway system - were apparently a major influence on the scenario.
