Matt Damon just signed on for another
Bourne flick. I am kind of suprised because I remember Damon saying he felt like the series was completed. I'm not exactly suprised that he caved in and agree to it, I'm just shocked how quickly he changed his mind.
There is no real word on any kind of plot. Hell, any plot they come up with probably wont be set in stone anyway considering the third flick was written pretty much on the fly.
The article doesnt say what the title will really be but the 4th book was titled
The Bourne Legacy. My guess is they will take the title and do whatever they want like they did with the other three movies.

Bourne to be Rich

I find it funny that Matt Damon would want to do a fourth “Bourne” movie – especially because the last one (“Ultimatum”) wrapped things up so nicely. But then, Damon doesn’t seem to be the type to do things for money, so all I can assume is that he and director Paul Greengrass have come up with one killer story for the next installment. We hope.
Whatever the case, Jason Bourne will be the subject of a forthcoming DVD Quadrilogy box set – with word from Variety that Universal, Damon and Greengrass (director of the last two “Bourne” flicks; Doug Liman did the first) are brainstorming over ideas for another sequel.
As I believe the original “Bourne” book series ended at “Ultimatum” and the series then went on to tell the story of – granted, Ludlum didn’t write these ones – Bourne’s son, they'll probably be writing something from scratch this time around (not that they basically didn't do that for the "Bourne" films anyway - the books didn't really resemble the movies).

I had heard about this and hoped that it was not true. The best one was the first one. The second one was pretty good. The third one just sucked. I got so dizzy in the third movie from the fights scenes being so "in your face" - I couldn't follow anything that was happening during the fights. And the story... well, that was pretty lame, too.

It's funny how you describe the 3rd movie because I felt the same about the 2nd movie.
The fight scenes in the 2nd movie actually caused me to close my eyes to save myself from puking in the theatre.
I thought the 3rd was more like the first, not quite as good but still a great action movie.
Maybe the script will make the 4th movie a prequel.
That's what I'm guessing.
No reason to bring him out of retirement.

I'm assuming we've already covered the fact that the books and the movies have no corellation. I read the Legacy and it was ok. Some of the characters that they killed in the first movie are figureheads in the Legacy so I guess it will be a action movie with a stamp of BOURNE on it to get people to come.

I just watched Ultimatum for the first time this past weekend. I guess I'm not with you guys on this because I thought it was great. I kept trying to work out how the hell they had any time to stuff in a storyline between the non-stop action. I literally felt like I had just drunk 5 cups of coffee. I also thought to myself that they could easily keep this thing going for another 3 movies or more... But, then again I love any and all James Bond movies too, so I’m a sucker for this type of thing.

Bourne 3 > Bourne 2 > Bourne 1
I like the idea of Bourne's son taking over. I mean... it would be nice to see Bourne, as smart and lethal as he is, have to adjust the brain to brawn ratio to deal with adversaries as he gets older.
Unlike Bond, the fun in Bourne is seeing how he can use the most mundane items in situations in order to adapt with his circumstances.
No bazooka boots. No submarine sports cars.
Throw in a bum knee and general aging wear and tear, with a son to boot...
Man. It'll be like "The Rock" all over again.
I for one enjoyed watching the old guys take out the new ones.
WANT!

Having just rewatched the Bourne series boxset, I have changed my mind.
Let Bourne rest. The poor guy lost his cute Kraut vagina monster 2 movies ago. I personally think that 4 movies of him getting the crap kicked out of himself, then outstrategizing a bunch of government bigwigs and then coming back to cockpunch or kill them with simple household implements to only get away barely alive yet again is just tired.
Let the poor fucker just rub one out.

Universal was smart to lock down the rights to Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne character, even if there wasn't another book in the pipeline to be adapted. Matt Damon has said he'd return to the character if the story was good, then he signed on for a fourth Bourne and a Phillip K Dick adaptation called The Adjustment Bureau.
Dual projects for an actor is no problem, but dual projects for a writer is a tad more difficult and dual projects for a first-time director are near impossible. Such is the issue for George Nolfi, the writer of films like Oceans Twelve and The Bourne Ultimatum. Nolfi was hired to write the fourth Bourne flick earlier this year when a Summer 2011 date was announced for the sequel. A couple of months later, Nolfi was also given the reigns to The Adjustment Bureau, which he will direct and write for Universal, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.
Two Matt Damon tent pole films are a bit much for one person to handle, so Nolfi has stepped away from the Bourne script as The Adjustment Bureau nears its September shooting dates. Universal, set on having a new Bourne film to keep them afloat in 2011, has hired Josh Zetumer, best known by buzz only as the writer of Peter Berg's new Dune adaptation, to write a fourth Bourne.
Bourne 4 now has two scripts in various levels of completion. Whn Zetumer turns in his draft, the studio and director have the option of chosing one or the other script of combining the two into one super-film.
This parallel scripting method isnt necessaraly unheard of, though some of the examples didn't exactly turn out to be huge blockbusters: "Star Trek: Generations," "Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer" and "Wolverine" among them (though as a Trek fan I enjoyed Generations).
I caught part of The Bourne Ultimatum on TV the other day and almost got sucked too far into the movie to leave in time to make my appointments, so there's nothing I'd like more than another addictive, smart and well-paced Bourne film. Not only that, but I like the sound of The Adjustment Bureau more and more.
Don't think there's any bad news here. Unless someone knows something about Josh Zetumer that I don't...

Greengrass is out. Bad news but I wouldn't be opposed to them bringing back Liman.

Paul Greengrass is officially over Jason Bourne by: Niki Stephens Feb. 26, 2010
Devin over at CHUD got a very interesting and long answer to a BOURNE question while interviewing Paul Greengrass about
GREEN ZONE.
Back in December, we caught wind that
Greengrass was leaving the fourth
film in the series due to "creative differences". From Matt Damon's perspective, he had seemed rather optimistic, but when he talked about a
reboot it was fair to say that his days as Jason Bourne were done. That on top of his loyalty to Greengrass.
Here's what the
director
had to say,
"I have moved on. I finished [Green Zone] in July, had the summer off, and I came back and thought I could find a way to get engaged and make [a fourth Bourne film], [but] I thought in my head there were so many other things and films I wanted to make. I didn't have the fire in my belly. Not that I don't like Jason Bourne, not that I'm not extremely grateful to the franchise, not that I'm extremely close to the studio - there were no arguments. I didn't feel like I had anything else to contribute. It just happens with franchises; you get to a point where you feel like you've done it." Even without him, Greengrass sees the franchise continuing as well as his association with Universal,
"They need to find someone else to come in to take it in a new direction I wouldn't have thought of and it will be better. I'll continue to make movies with the studio, and I'll continue to make movies with Matt, because there are a lot of movies I'd like to make with him. In the end in your creative journey through life you need new challenges, and I've come to that place." So, what's Greengrass looking to do next?
"Could it be a romantic comedy? Probably not. It'll probably be some gigantic action movie, but it'll be fun and new."

Greengrass made the visual style that the Bourne films are synonymous for. With his departure goes my interest for the franchise.
Needless to say I was not a fan of Liman's direction in the first film.

I'm a big fan of the first one, for me it's Supremacy>Identity>Ultimatum but I think they are all good. While I think that Greengrass added a really distinctive and memorable visual aspect Liman got more out of the actors and presented a better story. However I do think that at this point the series is totally identified with Greengrass's style and if he isn't coming back they should just end it. If they do go on though I would rather them go with Liman to try create a new chapter (which really needs to be done anyway because the current story is pretty much over) instead of having someone come in and try and mimic what Greengrass did (as I fear they will.)
