Eddie Murphy could return for a fourth ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ movie.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is keen to jumpstart the franchise 13 years
after ‘Beverly Hills Cop III’ was released, with Murphy returning as
wisecracking cop Axel Foley.
But Lorenzo is not prepared to bow to censors to get the picture made.
He said: “I want it to be rated R. I think it’s going to be a really
interesting debate. But that’s what I want. The studio says their research
is telling them PG. I won’t do it if it’s PG.”
The original movies - all rated R - contained excessive gun battles and
liberal use of sexual swear words.
Recent action sequel ‘Die Hard 4.0’ was criticized earlier this month when
it was edited to a PG-13 rating.
The original ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ was released in 1984 and catapulted Murphy
to international stardom.
The first three films brought in more than $700 million in worldwide box
office.
