I was just wondering if there were any physiotherapists in this place - a long shot I *know*.
I tore a ligament in my right knee last night at soccer/football and I can't play or train until it's fixed (properly). I can barely walk atm.
I'm going to need physio (and I'm going to go) but I just wanted to get a heads up on what kind of exercises etc I'll have to do to get my knee back in working order.
Any helpers?

If the ligament's torn completely, you don't need physio, you need surgery to re-attach it. A ligament is under so much strain that it won't just heal by itself, even if it is only partially torn. You can get by with a partially torn ligament (I do), but you can't get by with a full torn one.

Rich is correct. That is not repairable without surgery. Take your shirt off, get your digital camera then PM me. I can help you.

Surgery is for the lose.
Hopefully its not a full blow tear. And if it is, i hope its not going to affect your driving leg.

As others have said, you don't want a torn one otherwise it's surgery.
I strained a few back in high school and it took a good 2 or 3 years before my leg was 100%.
In hindsight, I'm so glad not to have surgery. While the doctors suggested it, it wouldn't have been practical unless I had plans to play football in college (which was not going to happen).
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but expect A LOT of pain, frustration, helplessness (?), and did I mention pain?
However, over time, the pain will subside and eventually, you will be good as new. Just remember it will not happen over night. Just stick with the PP and hopefully, your recovery time will be reasonable.
Good luck!

Yeah to fix a tear you need surgery, while it's a lot better than it used to be, surgery is not fun. I know, My knee still isn't right. I spent months in physical therapy after the surgery too. That's what happens when someone cut blocks you and catches your leg the wrong way.

Four people have told her surgery. But she is stubborn and if her doctor didn't tell her 'surgery' she won't even consider it as an option.
Also, she won't keep off of her knee to give it a chance to heal properly either. She'll have already been out shopping by the time she reads this.
What a Rushie.

I concur with Rich, full frontal nudity is required to properly assess the situation. Preferably action shots to see the limits of your mobility.
Sorry to hear your in pain, hopefully our pervery puts a little smile on your face

well it's three days later and i'm up and walking, although it's not fast, it's not as painful... i'm thinking that it's either the drugs, ice and rest that is making it heal faster or it's not as serious as the GP first thought... either way I'm happy - I can go on a work trip for three days and wear heals...
I'll prolly book the physiotherapist for when i get back...
some of you obviously dont know me well enough yet... you couldnt tell my front from my back

I'd like to think that I could tell the difference. I've tried to do a lot of research on this subject.

You could always post 2 pics, one from the front, and one from the back, and make it a poll so that people can guess which is which.
I do hope your leg heels quickly and well.

I've known several, including myself, who had the same experience. Just don't over do it because if the ligament(s) snap, you're in for a world of hurt.
Take lots and lots of drugs and then post lots and lots of pictures.
You'll get even more sympathy and I can assure you that I definitely know the difference
Here's to a speedy recovery. Cheers!

The funny thing is that you are not allowed to do that. The ladies are, though. It is a right feminists have fought for for ages.

Make sure you post lots of pics of you in those heels. You know, just so that we can make sure you are being truthful about wearing the heels and stuff...
Edit...

Um... There's some acronym ICE that I learned way back when I my friend was teaching random sports medicine shit for god knows what.
I= Ice
C= Compression
E= Elevate (above heart)
The compression part will probably hurt. I can't really remember what this was for, probably just injuries in general.
