I started using "Bulk Image Downloader" but its saving all the images as gif files, as opposed to jpgs. I need a program that will take gifs in one folder, and save them as jpegs into another folder. is there anything out there (free) that will do this? or does photoshop cs3 do it easier then opening each gif and saving it as a jpg?

...wouldn't it be better to find a way to download them in their original formats?

I dont know how to do the batch command in ps - also the BID is saving them as gifs, I cant find any settings that will change what format the images are saved as, it does it by itself

Google search for photoshop batch command tutorials. I use batches all the time to process photos. Pretty simple once you do it.

its saving them as "Adobe Fireworks GIF File", they have no file extension (named "01" as opposed to "01.gif" etc)

did you try renaming? what's the header like? if it's something like "ÿØÿà" then it's already a JPEG, if it's "GIF89a" the it's a gif. Open with notepad or something and check

yeah I opened one with notepad and its a bunch of crazy gobbledegook and at the top it says something like ÿØÿà JFIF Ducky Adobe... but they are still showing up as gif files and open with a different program then my image/jpg viewer...

no need for ps, then. Just rename the files. AS LONG AS TWO FILES DON'T HAVE THE SAME FILENAME a single ren * *.jpg will do the work.

I use the BId that you grabbed, and it saves them as the posted file name, and as the posted format. i have no idea why its saving them as GIF's on your end.

Heh for starters it's obvious you (or someone) has installed Fireworks and left the settings on for viewing certain images by default instead of unticking the boxes when installing it so it's hijacked your settings.
Also every file has an extension type on it, I have mine hidden. Somewhere in the folder options there is a setting "Hide extensions for known file types". Untick it. If all else fails make like a n00b and clean your temp files etc out. Sometimes things go wonky when you don't do that. (I don't know about gifs but I have seen jpgs save as bmp files when the temporary internet files haven't been cleaned out for ages back in the olden days) -------------------- |
