So I've determined that the case my current shit is in isn't getting proper airflow. I figure I can just unmount the mobo and remount it in a new case and screw it in, plug in the corresponding parts for the PSU, and reattach everything and fire it up without problems right?

Sure .. the hardware doesn't know what case it's affixed to.

Should be just fine.

Just make sure the new case and motherboard are a compatible size/style.

Other than that.. ya it doesn't really matter. It's just a case.

Thanks. I realized the video card will need to be replaced because I don't have a regular sized bracket for it. Aside from that I have a case, PSU, and additional fan picked out.

Also make sure no part of the motherboard is touching the case, and that you use the spacers to keep the motherboard proportionally lifted off the case side panel it's mounted to. You don't want to short anything out.

Also, be prepared for some pain in the ass wiring if your new case has any front-side usb/audio/etc.

Several connections to be made, to various spots on different mobos, many of which will be single wire connections.

Not necessarily difficult, just a bit time consuming.

Oh yeah, it just occurred to me that you may have trouble hooking up the new psu to the mobo if it has a different pin configuration. I'm assuming you already verified the configuration that you need? A lot of the newer psu's have a 20+4 ATX (ATX12V) 24-pin configuration, but a lot of older motherboards don't use that setup. Likewise, if your cpu or video card requires a separate (additional) power source some psu's don't have all the connections you need. These are all things to be wary of.

I got bored with standard cases.

I have affixed a computer to cardboard, suspended it in a pvc cage, crammed it into a toolbox with an lcd in the lid.

Go nuts with it, have fun and break outside the actual box.
