I figured it was time to start this thread considering how today went.

Flyers acquired forward Jakub Voracek, a first-round draft pick (8th) and a third-round draft pick (68th) in 2011 from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Jeff Carter.

Flyers acquired forwards Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn, and a second-round draft pick in 2012 from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for forward Mike Richards.

Flyers sign goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to 9 year, $51 million deal.

I think the Sabres and Flames also had a trade but holy shit!

Two huge moves by Philadelphia yesterday... I understand the Carter move, as it relates to getting a legit #1 in the net -- but was taken aback by Richards going 20 minutes later!!

I guess there was bad blood between him and the coach. Toronto was in the running to get him (deal would've involved Kulimen and Kadri) .. we need a top-line centre, so I would've accepted losing those guys.

Leafs flipped their conditional pick from the Bruins in the Kaberle trade (2012 second round) for John Michael Liles.

We needed a power-play point man to replace Kaberle.. giving up a pick we didn't even think we'd get seems like a fair deal?

I'm going to have to bully my niece and say no to treehouse tv come draft time.

Free Agent Frenzy ... also, I'm kinda/sorta hoping both the NBA and the NFL stay locked out this season -- would be a great opportunity for sports viewers to check out more hockey!!

That pro sport that routinely makes more money in America than basketball. Imagine if we could pull just a tad of the differential audience (NBA has approx. 3 times as much support, based on 09/10 #'s) .. goldmine!

Jagr is back (but in the other Pennsylvania sports mecca) .. will Owen Nolan return as well???

I've honestly been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to determine why I don't watch NHL and I can't come up with a single tangible reason. Of course, I don't watch MLB either, so maybe I'm not the best example of the target demographic. The only reason I got into watching the NBA is that I started playing when I moved to the US and got a real appreciation for how damn hard it is. Although, that doesn't explain why I watch the NFL cuz outside of some mud-games I've never thrown or caught a football. And it also doesn't explain why I don't watch college hoops - although that has more to do with a school affiliation, which I obviously have none (in the US). I can't skate for shit, so I certainly appreciate how hard that is. If I have to be honest with myself, I might not watch the NBA if I didn't have a local team to root for. But, I obviously have my NHL choices. I really don't know, but I do know that I'd rather knit a pair of socks than watch an NHL game. Sorry. Not trying to hijack the thread or bring any negativity, but I really did try to address your thought that NHL might be able to capture some of the NBA viewership.

I'd say its mostly about being in LA .. the Lakers are a proven success out there, while in every other sport there is no west coast super-power (the Kings have never won)

Just like the Yankees in NY.

Realingment: instead of two conferences with three divisions, next year we get four conferences. Here's what it looks like.

So, those who stayed "East" really lucked the fuck out?

Also, how 'bout that Phaneuf hit against NYR, eh!! Epic.

Does Dean even know what hockey is?

Bruins looked way to good for two months and at the time I said I was worried about them peaking too quick. Looks like I was right. Waaah.

What a mess.. I want to cheer for Ottawa given there be only two Canadian franchises in the allotment but with them sliding to 8th I just don't see it. And with Colin White playing a supporting role in SJ this year, I'm almost tempted to cheer for them... but fuck, its San Jose. I just can't think of any redeeming qualities for that sentiment!!

So first round picks: Vancouver, St. Louis, Phoenix, Nashville, Rangers, Capitals, Panthers and Flyers.
